From expats in Costa Rica to Living in Taiwan & exploring Asia

A few pics from our first month in Taipei, Taiwan!

We, Pauline and Josh, first met in Costa Rica before eventually moving to Taiwan. Pauline was working as an English teacher. Josh was helping run his family’s Bed & Breakfast, Butterfly Garden and Brewery in the small jungle beach town of Montezuma (montezumagardens). A chance meeting blossomed into marriage. After working together on the family business for a few years, we decided to use our experience teaching English to move to another part of the world. We both love speaking Spanish, and Latin American culture. But we wanted discover a explore a new part of the world together.

Why Taiwan?

There were a lot of reasons that went into our choice to move to Taiwan. We wanted to find a place that was friendly for English teachers with TESOL certificates without a lot of formal classroom experience. Taiwan definitely provides that. The first draw, however, was the number of butterfly species here. One of the great butterfly migrations happens here where the Purple Crow butterflies winter in the south.

But then we realized that Taiwan is also a gateway to the rest of Asia. And we have not been disappointed. This blog is to help others who might overlook visiting this fantastic place while touring Asia, as well as a chance to share our views as Americans living abroad in a fantastic place that we would highly recommend to anyone.

Check out our blog for our thoughts on life in Taiwan and travels in Asia. And if you’re going to be in Taipei we created a whole section just on using the MRT which was what we primarily used to explore and get around Taipei when we first arrived.
